Rick Franzblau is in his first year as the director of olympic sports strength and conditioning. The previous three years he served in the capacity of assistant director of olympic sports strength and conditioning. He is responsible for the supervision of the assistant strength coaches, graduate assistants and volunteer interns. Franzblau oversees the strength and conditioning for all 14 of the Olympic Sports that train in the Jervey weightroom. He is directly responsible for the strength and conditioning efforts of the baseball, men’s soccer and track and field teams. Prior to becoming an assistant coach, Franzblau worked as a graduate assistant at Clemson where he worked with football and Olympic sports.
Jason Stone is starting his second season with the Cincinnati Reds, where he works full time as their Manager of Applied Sports Science. Prior to his work with the Reds, he spent the previous year's establishing and facilitating sport science efforts at The Ohio State University, West Virginia University, and Texas Christian University. During that time, he also completed graduate studies at TCU (MS, Exercise Physiology) and WVU (PhD, Applied Coaching and Sport Sciences). Outside of work, he enjoys spending sunny days outside with his dogs, Cooper and Griffey, reading, road trips, and convincing himself that he will get better at golf, and seemingly all other social scenarios that are sports related.
Heather Betancourt is a dedicated sports performance professional with expertise in sports performance, sports science integration, and female athlete development. While holding positions within the Professional Referee Organization (PRO), University of Pittsburgh, and US Soccer Federation, Heather is at the forefront of integrating multidisciplinary approaches to athlete and organization success. With a passion for enhancing athlete performance and well-being, Heather’s push for advancing women’s sports stems from her soccer career and desire to better the sport and the way these athletes are coached and developed. Through effective communication, data collection and reporting methods, she strives to optimize athlete training programs and maximize results. She is committed to leveraging her expertise to educate and empower athletes, coaches, and administrators alike, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
The Emerging Sports Science Scholarship
The Emerging Sports Science Professional Scholarship is provided by The University of Pittsburgh for a student pursing the MS in Sport Science. This scholarship is supported by Hawkin Dynamics.
